Activities and Classes for Adults

RVUUC offers a variety of adult classes and discussion groups throughout the year. Here’s what is happening this month.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
Sunday, June 13 at noon

After our morningsong service on June 13, members of the congregation will vote whether to dissolve or suspend RVUUC's charter as we prepare to join with Westside UU Congregation. The Board of Trustees recommends dissolution, for reasons explained on page 2 of the June newsletter. Please speak with any Board member (Rosemary Adang, Linda Anderson, Andrea Keating, or Liz Berggren) if you have questions about this vote.

CARRY 5 WALK FOR WATER
Sat, June 5 – Join the RVUUC team!

Gain a firsthand understanding of the true burden of gathering water, and raise money to help end this long walk for so many. Several RE families and other members of the congregation have formed a team to participate in the 3rd annual CARRY 5 WALK FOR WATER on Sat, June 5, at 1 pm at Seward Park. We’ll fill containers with 5 gallons of water from the lake (which we can choose to divide among us), and carry the 5 gallons along Lake Washington Blvd for 5 kilometers, the average burden borne by women and girls in poor countries who lack access to safe, convenient water supplies. The cost is only $10 per person, with ages 4 and under free. You can ask your family, neighbors, and workmates for pledges too. All the money raised goes to build village wells and water taps in areas of the world where clean water is lacking. This is a simple way to both reduce the incidence of deadly water-borne diseases, and free girls to attend school and women to engage in productive activities that contribute to the well-being of their families. Meet at the Seward Park lower swings at noon—look for Nancy Olsen, Chris Rhinehart, or Lisa Maynard.

POTLUCK OF APPRECIATION Sun, June 6

Yes, it’s been a lot of work, and joy as well. Please think about who you would like to honor for their efforts, and join us in a celebration and remembrance of all the love and care that has gone into creating this congregation, at the potluck after the service on June 6.

WELCOME TO WESTSIDE Sun, June 20

After the June 20 service at Westside UU Congregation, all RVUUC members and friends are invited to stay for a soup lunch (potluck contributions welcome!) followed by a ride to the new building and an orientation session at 12:45 pm led by Rev. Peg Morgan and President Paula vanHaagen. At the orientation session we’ll learn about Westside’s organization, activities, staffing, new home progress, and steps to become a member. After the orientation you can stay for a building tour.

SATURDAY WORK PARTIES AT WESTSIDE’S NEW BUILDING

The new building at 7141 California Ave SW is in pretty good shape but requires cleaning and some rehabilitation. Work parties are ongoing on Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm. There are also some opportunities mid-week to paint. Working side-by-side is a simple, effective, and fun way to make friends and become integrated into the life of our new UU community.

CHOIR REHEARSALS Thursdays at 7:30 apm

RVUUC’s choir welcomes all members and friends who love to sing. We have an eclectic (but accessible!) repertoire that includes acapella music, chants, African rhythms and harmonies, and singing in several languages. The choir rehearses June 3 and 10 at 7:30 pm at the Beacon Hill home of Linda & Craig Anderson. For more info, speak with our choir director, Janet Kidder.
